Maria Teresa Caparotta (nee Bomparola) 71, of Brooklyn, N.Y. died on April 11, 2021. She was born on November 18, 1949 in Santa Severina, Italy as the third of four children to the late Domenico Bomparola and Elisabetta LeRose. After being raised and educated in Italy, Maria Teresa and her late husband, Giuseppe Caparotta, left for the United States, moving to Brooklyn, NY with their eldest son in the winter of 1973. They were blessed with a daughter in 1977 and another son in 1980. Maria Teresa loved living in the United States and embracing everything American even though she was far from her family in Italy. She learned English by watching Sesame Street with her young children.
After many years as a homemaker, she found her passion working as a clerk in the Brooklyn Public Library after her children were grown. Maria Teresa truly enjoyed working at the library, taking her work responsibilities very seriously. She was most passionate about her story time duty; reading to children at the library every Thursday and watching them delight in the stories she told gave her great joy.
Kind, intelligent and generous to a fault, Maria Teresa loved animals, especially animals in need, and donated to animal charities as often as she could. A voracious reader, huge Jeopardy and Antiques Roadshow fan and classic movie buff, she loved history and could tell you about monarchical succession in Europe as easily as she could explain how to make her famous rice balls.
She is survived by her two sons, Francesco and Giuseppe, her daughter Elizabeth, son-in-law Frank Ploger and beloved grandson Frank Anthony. She will be laid to rest at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Hawthorne, NY. Family and friends will be invited to celebrate her life at a memorial service in May. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to Hounds in Pounds in Maria Teresa’s name. https://houndsinpounds.com/honor-donate/
