Obituary

Colman Gasten Merithew died on October 16, 2021, at Skyview Rehabilitation and Health Care Center, Croton-on-Hudson, New York, at the age of 83.  He was the son of Robert Stanton Merithew, Jr. and Dora Hill Gasten Merithew of White Plains, New York.

Mr. Merithew was born on March 26, 1938, in White Plains, New York, where he spent the early part of his life.  He attended and graduated from Michigan State University receiving a bachelor’s degree in packaging from its College of Packaging. He was an avid reader and current events were particularly appealing to him.  He was deeply interested in conservation, was politically minded and did not hesitate to express his views. His sense of humor was evident to all who knew him.  He was a benefactor of the Rock Creek Conservancy for the beautification of the park, as well as The Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation for the benefit of The National Cathedral in Washington DC.  His love for art was evident in his many visits to New York City Museums. He loved the outdoors and would rather walk than ride, although he enjoyed car trips to country horse farms.

In later life, he lived at Brightview Senior Living in Tarrytown, New York, where he made friends and enjoyed group discussions, as well as their many activities.

Mr. Merithew is survived by his two cousins:  Donald Colman Titus of Chevy Chase, Maryland and Elaine Titus Jones of Potomac, Maryland.  A third cousin:  Roger Warren Titus died in 2019. Burial in his family plot at Mt. Hope Cemetery in Norwich, N.Y.

          Funeral arrangements will be private.
