Jean Elizabeth (Myers) Lynch, 67 of Thornwood, NY passed away peacefully on Monday April 22nd in her home surrounded by family.
Jean (Jeanie) was born on January 25, 1952 in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, NY to Gertrude Sayers and Wirt Myers. Through much of her adult life, Jean was guided by the love and support of her Stepfather, Robert Sayers. She graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart of Mary in Manhattan, NY in 1970 and from Lenoir Rhyne College in Hickory, NC in 1974. She holds two master’s degrees in Education and Administration from Fordham University.
Jean married Robert (Bob) Lynch, also of Riverdale, in 1980. They had two children, Robert Jr (Bobby) and Katherine Anne (Katie).
Jeanie’s life passion was to teach, she spent twenty years as a dedicated teacher at Middle School 180 in the Co-Op City section of the Bronx.
Jean was an active member of the Church of the Magdalene in Pocantico Hills, NY where she was a eucharist minister and member of the choir. In addition to her involvement in the church, Jean volunteered at Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla, NY, giving communion and support to patients in the hospital. Jeanie touched the lives of everyone she met and was a social butterfly whose smile could light up a room.
Jean is survived by her beloved husband, Robert; her son Robert Jr. (Coleen) and her daughter Katherine (Bryan Keeney), mother, Gertrude, sister,Kathy Jones and stepsister Lenore Sayers,four grandchildren; Robert III, Caleb, Jack & Abaigeal as well as many loving brother and sister in laws, nieces, and nephews.
Reposing, Wednesday, April 24, 2019 and Thursday, April 25, 2019 from 4-8 PM at the Hawthorne Funeral Home. Funeral Mass 10 AM Friday, April 26, 2019 at The Church of the Magdalene, Pocantico Hills, NY. A private cremation will follow.
