Charles Stotz, Jr., passed away peacefully at home on Friday March 30, 2018 at the age of 88. He was born in White Plains, NY to Olga Dietrich Stotz and Charles Stotz on April 8, 1929. A lifelong resident of Valhalla, NY, he attended White Plains High School and graduated in 1947. While in high school he played football and basketball and joined the Valhalla Fire Department Company #1 during World War II in 1945, at the age of 16. After graduating from high school, Charlie joined the family business, Charles Stotz, Inc., a school bus transportation company in Valhalla where he would work for nearly the next 70 years. While he was young, he dedicated much of his free time to the Kensico Little League, focusing on his passion for baseball by coaching and umpiring for nearly 20 years. He loved to travel and had the opportunity to visit many places with friends and family including Japan, France, Germany, UK, Hawaii, Utah, Florida, California, among many others including an international flight on the supersonic Concorde and a trans-Atlantic cruise from the UK to NY on the world famous Queen Elizabeth 2 (QE2) ocean liner. Charlie is survived by his brother, Harry W. Stotz of Ridgefield, CT, his two nieces, Lauren Stotz DePalma of Danbury, CT and Beverly Stotz of Sleepy Hollow, NY, his grand-niece Carrie DePalma Priano of Danbury, CT, and grand-nephew Maxwell Alexander Levy, of Sleepy Hollow, NY. A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held on Wednesday April 25th from 4PM to 8PM at the Hawthorne Funeral Home, 21 Stevens Avenue, Hawthorne, NY. The funeral will be held on April 26th at 10AM, at Kensico Cemetery, in Valhalla, NY. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Kensico Little League, P.O. Box 11, Valhalla, NY 10595.
